If I can’t make it to the end of the day’s tour, will there be transport?

At 1st Category Cycling the tours are tailored to the group’s ability. We want you to enjoy your ‘challenge’ and be fit for the following day. If however a rider can’t make it to the end the minibus is never far away and you can stop whenever you want to.

During the ride will there be a member of 1st Category Cycling with the group at all times?

There will be the team bus and also Simon, on his bike, with you most days. You don’t’ even need to carry spare clothing or tyres!!

Will there be tools and equipment at the lodge?

At Montperron there will be the necessary tools for most work on the bikes as well as cleaning them. In the event of major mechanical problems we work closely with a very good nearby bike shop.

Will I be able to wash my cycling clothes?

On the chalet based tours, you will have use of the laundry facilities to avoid bringing out 7 or 8 changes of cycling attire.

How will my bike be transported when using the minibus?

At 1st Category Cycling we understand that your bikes are ‘precious’ and we do our up most to transport your bikes in the best possible conditions.

What happens if I run out of water or food on a ride?

You won’t!! A member of 1st Category Cycling staff is never more than a few minutes away.

Are there other things to do in case of bad weather?

It’s actually quite rare that it rains all day long and there is nearly always a tour that can be done. Also if it rains in Bourg St. Maurice it is quite often sunny in Italy (30kms away). In the case of bad weather we can offer certain other activities or visits.

How long are the days in the saddle?

A lot depends upon the level of the riders. On the chalet based tours we like to be back for around 4pm at the latest to relax on the patio with a nice cuppa (or beer!).

How often do we stop on a tour?

We obviously stop for lunch which is usually a beautifully prepared picnic. On the flatter parts stops are less frequent but on the climbs the minibus generally waits every 5 to 10 kms (around 30 to 40 mins) for refreshments for those who require and to fill your bottle.
